About US

Our Vision: We envision a world where all children are safe from harm in a loving and nurturing home so they can develop normally and enjoy a high quality of life. We believe that with the right environment every child can grow to their full potential.

Our Mission: Our mission is to increase non-relative continuity of care for foster children by recruiting, training and supporting trusted adults that can provide immediate safety, care, and well-being in a loving home. These children are in State Custody due to substantiated child abuse, neglect, or abandonment.  Our aim is to piece broken lives back together.

Recent Accomplishments:

Cindy Simpson, COO of CHRIS 180 (https://chris180.org/), with over 35 years of experience working in Georgia’s social welfare, youth homeless and mental health systems, recommended AFC, CEO Mike  McMahon, to the Georgia’s Commissioner Robyn Crittenden. Having worked with and knew that the AFC was on its own, working on recruitment and retention of new foster parents in Region 3 of DFCS. Hence, the AFC and DFCS 12-01-17 meeting at Director Virginia Pryor's DFCS Office.

Georgia’s 7 DFCS attendees were DFCS Director, Virginia Pryor; Chief of Staff, Jeff Lukich; State Permanency Director, Tammy Reed; Recruitment and Retention Unit Manager, Candis Jones; State Caregiver Recruitment & Retention, Program Manager Ebony Wilmore; Caregiver Recruitment & Retention Administrator (Region 3), Joyce White, and Residential Child Care Licensing Compliance Specialist, Nicole Bass.

The State Director of DFCS recognized AFC for their foster care advocacy work and formed a partnership with AFC to begin  (12-01-17) the "Retention Current and Recruiting of New Georgia Foster Parents Campaign”. AFC co-operates with DFCS, however, is independently financed through grants.

Recently, the Knights of Columbus Council (160 members) of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Dallas, GA has joined the Advocacy for Foster Children (AFC) and Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) in the “Retention of Current and Recruitment of New Foster Parents” Campaign. The number of Councils participating throughout the State could be 128. The number of the Knights volunteers would produce overwhelming results. Presently, 35 churches have volunteered their halls for educational talks.
